Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Nov. 20 is freshman women's basketball player Makena Tomlinson.

The star post player has helped IVC to a perfect 5-0 record so far.

She is averaging a team-best 12.6 points and 10.0 rebounds on the year and also shooting 56.6 percent from the field.

Tomlinson, a 6-1 sophomore out of Corona del Mar High, scored 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field, added nine rebounds and three steals to lead IVC to a 72-53 win at Citrus as part of the El Camino Crossover last Friday night.

Tomlinson has scored in double figures in four of Irvine Valley's five games so far.

She had a season-high in the opening game of the year, finishing with 16 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the floor in the Lasers' 78-55 win over Cerritos in the RCC EOS Tournament on Nov. 9.

Tomlinson was named the most valuable player of the tournament after IVC went 3-0 in the event and defeated Pasadena City, 66-59, on Nov. 11. In that contest, Tomlinson ended with 15 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, one assist and one block.

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday in the final game of the El Camino Crossover at El Camino at 7 p.m.
