Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Feb. 26 is sophomore women's basketball player Emily Freeman.

The standout guard had seven assists to help IVC rally for a 77-72 win at Riverside last Friday night.

Irvine Valley trailed, 38-31, at the half, but came back in the second half to defeat RCC on the road in an Orange Empire Conference game.

IVC, ranked No. 12 in the state, improved its record to 21-7 overall and 12-2 in conference.

The Lasers finished second in the OEC and earned the seventh seed in the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs. IVC will host a first-round playoff game on Saturday.

On the season, Freeman is averaging 9.1 points (third on the team), 3.2 assists (second on the team) and 1.4 steals (second on the team) per game.

Freeman has been a two-year starter for the Lasers.
