Women's soccer team drops home match to Cypress

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team played right with Cypress for the first half of Tuesday's Orange Empire Conference match at home.

But the Chargers scored three goals in the second half and the Lasers fell, 4-1, to the second-place team in the conference standings.

IVC's record slippped to 2-11-6 overall and 2-6-5 in conference.

Cypress got on the board first when Mary Dynda took a long range shot that got past IVC freshman keeper Marisa Banos in the 29th minute.

But Ivine Valley responded just before the end of the first half. The Lasers scored one of their best goals of the year.

Freshman Lauren Berry sent a corner kick across the top of the box that sophomore forward Luci Bernal dummied and sophomore defender Yvette Belman stepped up and sent a one-time shot from 19 yards out into the upper right corner to tie the match at 1-1 in the 39th minute.

But it was all Cypress in the second half. The Chargers took the lead for good three minutes into the half on a goal by Kristen Nolan. She took control of a loose ball in the box and scored.

Then in the 60th minute, Ranae Francis scored off a header on a free kick from Dynda to make it 3-1.

The Chargers closed out the scoring in the 88th minute when Nolan scored her second goal of the game off a cross from Cynthia Iniguez.

Cypress improved its record to 9-5-3 overall and 7-2-3 in conference.

Both IVC's Banos and Cypress keeper Tabatha Macedo made three saves on the day.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday, hosting Golden West at 3 p.m. It will be IVC's final game of the regular season.
