Women's soccer team plays tough in draw at Orange Coast

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team came away with a 0-0 tie at Orange Coast on Friday afternoon in an Orange Empire Conference match.

Orange Coast went into the match in second place in the OEC standings.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 0-6-3 overall and 0-1-2 in conference.

"The girls really held their own," Irvine Valley coach Joe Supe said. "We had our chances and we also played really well defensively."

Supe said the efforts of freshman defenders Savanna Hayes, Lauren Berry and Angela Hernandez specifically stood out.

"And I thought Brenda (Chopin) did a nice job of taking charge up front," Supe said. "She was very aggressive for us."

Freshman Marissa Banos, making her second start of the season in goal, made four saves for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday, hosting Santa Ana in a conference match at 3 p.m.
