The opening round of the Orange Empire Conference Championships saw a strong performance from Irvine Valley freshman Katie Stribling.
Stribling entered the first day of the event on Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club three shots behind Fullerton's Eunsoo Jeon for the conference individual scoring lead.
But IVC's Stribling was the medalist on the day, finishing with a 2 over par score of 76. Fullerton's Jeon came in at 78.
Stribling moved within a shot of Jeon for the conference lead heading into the final day of the tournament next Wednesday at Los Serranos.
Freshman Emily Crowl carded 107 for the Lasers on the day.
Saddleback was the team leader with a score of 341 after the first day. Fullerton and Mount San Antonio tied for second with a team score 374.
