Women's golfer takes medalist honors at Desert Classic

Irvine Valley freshman golfer Katie Stribling made quite an impression in her first event for the Lasers over the weekend.

Stribling won the two-day Desert Classic at Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in Palm Springs.

She shot a 3-under par score of 71 on the first day on Saturday to take control of the tournament and followed it up with an even par of 74 on Sunday to cruise to the win.

Stribling's 145 total enabled her to win the title by six strokes over Saddleback's Brittany Do.

"She is a very talented young player," Irvine Valley coach Ailam Newkirk said. "I am so looking forward to working with her this season."

Irvine Valley is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at an Orange Empire Conference match hosted by Fullerton at LA Royal Vista at 10 a.m.
