Irvine Valley's women's golf team finished fifth at the Orange Empire Conference Championships earlier this week at San Clemente Municipal golf course.

The two-day tournament was held on Monday and Wednesday.

It was a 36-hole event with 18-holes played each day.

IVC, which was the defending conference champion, came in with a team score of 708. IVC was pretty consistent with its scoring, shooting 353 on Monday and 355 on Wednesday.

Fullerton posted the lowest team total for the event with a two-day total of 665.

Fullerton surprised Palomar, which had been the top team in the conference all season.

Palomar was second with a two-day total of 675. Palomar, which competed without one of its top players on Wednesday, ended up shooting 355 on the second day.

Saddleback came in third at 680 and College of the Desert finished fourth at 685.

IVC had been chasing Desert all season long, but came up a little short.

After IVC in fifth, Mt. San Jacinto was sixth at 732, Cuyamaca finished seventh at 768 and Mt. San Antonio was eighth at 859.

The top four teams qualified for the Southern California Regionals.

IVC's top finisher was freshman Cindy Dang, who shot the third-best score of the tournament. She finished at 161.

Dang carded 78 on Monday and 83 on Wednesday.

Irvine Valley freshman Leleaga Meredith also played strong, finishing at 165. She had a score of 80 on the first day and 85 on Wednesday.

Freshman Nayoung Kim finished at 184, including carding 89 on Wednesday.

And freshman Kimberly Richardson shot 198 to round out the Lasers' four-player scoring.
