Women's basketball team ranked No. 12 in the state

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team was ranked No.12 in the state and No. 6 in Southern California in the first regular-season poll by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association.

The Lasers are off to an 8-0 start, the best in recenty history.

Irvivne Valley trails Palomar, Orange Coast, Ventura, Long Beach City and Mt. San Jacinto in the So. Cal. poll.

IVC is coming off beating Palo Verde, 72-44, on Nov. 29 at home.

Irvine Valley has won five of its eight games by double figures and is led on the year by freshman guard Trasara Alexander, who is averaging 12.8 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.

The Lasers host their own IVC Crossover Classic this Friday and Saturday. IVC plays at 5 p.m. each day, facing Modesto on Friday and Moorpark on Saturday. Moorpark is ranked No. 15 in the state and No. 8 in So. Cal. heading into the event.
