Women's basketball team dominates Saddleback again

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team kept a hold of its lead in the Orange Empire Conference standings with a dominant 83-50 win over Saddleback on the road on Friday night. 

The Lasers swept the two-game season series over Saddleback and improved their record to 19-3 overall and 8-0 in conference.

IVC is ranked No. 8 in the state and third in Southern California.

Sophomore forward Kasey Smit led the way for Irvine Valley with 27 points and 23 rebounds.

She has games of 34, 26, 30 and 27 points in her last four conference games for the Lasers. Smit has also grabbed an amazing 43 rebounds in the last two IVC wins.

Freshman guard Cydnie Danan had 16 points and sophomore guard Elizabeth Garcia finished with 14 points for Irvine Valley Friday night. Freshman guard Lexi Vail chipped in eight points, four rebounds and eight assists in the win for IVC, which was the team's 10th in a row.

Irvine Valley has an impressive run going in conference. The Lasers have won five games by at least 33 points in conference and seven of their eight games by 23 points or more.

The Lasers just finished out-scoring Saddleback in their two games, 174-97.

Irvine Valley led just, 20-17, after the first quarter on Friday night, but out-scored Saddleback, 24-14, in the second quarter to take a big lead and then put the game away in the fourth quarter. 

IVC had its biggest quarter in the fourth, scoring 25 points and limiting the Gauchos to just seven points.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday in another conference game at Fullerton at 5 p.m.
