Baseball team shuts out Palomar for second straight win

Irvine Valley's baseball team earned its best victory of the season so far and won its second straight with a 4-0 shutout of Palomar on Friday in the College of the Desert Tournament.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 3-2 overall.

IVC freshman pitcher Nick Janowicz had his second solid start on the mound of the season. The 6-9 righty got the win after pitching 5.1 scoreless innings. He gave up just one hit and struck out seven.

Freshman Keenan Cisneros was also sharp. He earned a save after finishing the game. Cisneros went 3.2 innings and gave up just two hits with four strikeouts.

"Janowicz was incredible and Cisneros threw just as good," Irvine Valley coach Kent Madole said. "Our pitchers struck out 11 of their guys and only gave up three hits."

IVC got nice days at the plate from sophomore outfielder Grant Rockefell, who was 2 for 4 with two RBI and freshman outfielder Ben McConnell, who went 1 for 4 with two RBI.

Sophomore catcher Ryan Gaynor went 2 for 3 with a walk and sophomore Zack Stack was 2 for 4 for Irvine Valley.

"We played great defense, making only one error on the day," Madole said. "It was a really good day for us overall."

Irvine Valley finishes up the tournament on Saturday against host College of the Desert at 3 p.m.
