Volleyball's Tessa Marocco named a state player of the week

Irvine Valley freshman women's volleyball player Tessa Marocco was named as a California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association state player of the week on Monday.

Marocco totaled 31 kills, 20 digs and hit .383 overall in igniting IVC wins over Cypress in five sets at home last Wednesday and a sweep over Santa Ana on the road Friday.

Marocco planted 15 kills with 17 digs, two aces and two blocks in the Cypress triumph.

She hit an impressive .448 with 16 kills on the road at Santa Ana last Friday. 

Marocco, out of Mater Dei High, has averaged 15 kills a match in the Lasers last six contests, with four of those contests against top-15 ranked teams. 

She has helped the Lasers to a 9-3 record overall and a 5-0 mark in the Orange Empire Conference to open the season.

Marocco is averaging 3.82 kills and 2.36 digs per set.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday, hosting Saddleback in a conference match at 6 p.m.
