Benedict's four goals leads women's soccer team to victory

Irvine Valley women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2016 season and the Lasers did it in a big way.

The Lasers got four goals from sophomore forward Alexandra Benedict, including three in the second half, and beat San Diego City, 6-1, on the road on Friday.

The win lifted Irvine Valley's record to 1-1-2 overall.

Irvine Valley had tied its two previous contests.

Irvine Valley opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a goal by sophomore Rosa Soto-Aleman.

IVC added two more goals in the next seven minutes to take control of the match.

Benedict found the back of the net for the first time in the match two minutes later, scoring off an assist from midfielder Karina Casiano in the 22nd minute.

And sophomore midfielder Danielle Lefebvre scored an unassisted goal in the 27th minute to give Irvine Valley, 3-0.

San Diego City got a goal back in the 34th minute and Irvine Valley led, 3-1, at the half.

And then Benedict took over, scoring goals in the 59th, 78th and 89th minutes. The final goal came off an assist from sophomore defender Evelyn Lucatero.

The four goals were Benedicts first goals of this season.

She now leads the team with eight points.

Irvine Valley ended up taking 37 shots in the match with 22 of those on target.

IVC out-shot San Diego City, 37-3.

Sophomore goalie Yesenia Pulido had to make just one save in the match.

Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday, traveling to MiraCosta for a 3:30 p.m. match.
