Men's volleyball team starts conference with road sweep

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team started its quest for a second straight Orange Empire Conference title with a sweep at Santiago Canyon on Wednesday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 3 in the state, won, 25-17, 25-12, 25-22.

Irvine Valley defeated Orange Coast in the conference tournament to take the OEC title in 2021.

On Wednesday at Santiago Canyon, the Lasers hit .348 as a team and finished with 18 block assists.

Freshman outside hitter Karl Stenlund had a big night for IVC with 17 kills. He also had a hitting percentage of .485 and finished with eight digs and two blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Colin Chillingworth added eight kills, five aces and seven digs.

Freshman middle blocker Trevor Weinert added five kills and five blocks, freshman libero Adam Schulte had nine digs and two aces and freshman setter Donovan Gudino ended with 34 assists and four blocks.

Irvine Valley takes on the top-ranked team in the state, Orange Coast, on Friday at home at 6 p.m.
