Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team lost another tough one to Miramar in a battle between two of the top 10 squads in the state on Wednesday night on the road.
The Lasers, who fell to Miramar in five competitive sets earlier this season at home, had their chances to take down the Jets Wednesday, but came up short again in five sets.
Miramar, ranked No. 4 in the state this week, won, 25-17, 22-25, 17-25, 30-28, 15-11 over No. 8 Irvine Valley.
The win improved Miramar's record to 6-1 overall. Irvine Valley had its three-match win streak snapped and slipped to 5-6 overall.
The Lasers were up in sets, 2-1, and had an opportunity to close things out in the fourth set.
IVC held a 17-13 lead in the fourth set and ended up with four match points, but couldn't close the Jets out.
Irvine Valley had three chances on kill attempts up, 28-27, in the fourth set, but Miramar dug each ball, ended up winning the point and took the set.
Miramar took control in the fifth and final set to earn the overall victory.
Irvine Valley got another big match from sophomore opposite Demetre Gossett. Gossett, who ranks third in the state in total kills, had 19 on the night along with five aces.
Freshman outside hitter Colin Chillingworth finished with eight kills and hit .421, freshman middle blocker Trevor Weinert added seven kills, and freshman Josh Beymer had six kills.
Sophomore libero Red Ramos ended with 13 digs and sophomore setter Jimi Wilson contributed four kills, five digs and 40 assists.
Irvine Valley will try to get back in the win column on Friday when it plays a nonconference match at Grossmont at 7 p.m.
