Men's volleyball team sweeps Trade Tech, OEC play is up next

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team prepped for the start of Orange Empire Conference play with an easy 25-22, 25-8, 25-16 win over LA Trade Tech on Wednesday night at home.

The Lasers, ranked third in the state, improved their record to 9-2 overall.

IVC's only losses on the year have come to top-ranked Long Beach City and to professional team Blizzard Volleyball.

Irvine Valley got eight kills, two blocks and four digs from sophomore outside hitter Patrick Furlong and seven kills, one block and three digs from sophomore middle blocker Matt August to lead the way.

Sophomore outside hitter Brennan To and freshman outside hitter Trent Williams each chipped in  six kills. To also had two blocks and four digs.

Freshman libero Kelsey Yogi finished with seven digs and sophomore setter Austin McBain had 28 assists.

It was Irvine Valley's fifth sweep of the season.

LA Trade Tech's record fell to 0-9 in the year.

Irvine Valley opens conference play on Friday at Santiago Canyon at 6 p.m.
