Two late goals lift men's soccer team to victory at Norco

Irvine Valley's men's soccer team scored two goals in the minutes in rallying to beat Norco, 3-1, in an Orange Empire Conference match on Tuesday at Norco.

The win kept Irvine Valley on the heels of Golden West for first place in the conference standings.

IVC, which lost its first conference match of the year last Friday against Golden West, improved its record to 10-4-0 overall and 5-2-0 in conference.

The Lasers trail the Rustlers by just two points for first place in the standings.

Irvine Valley scored first on Tuesday, getting a goal from freshman forward Daniel Segal in the 37th minute. Freshman defender Alfonso Quezada-Osorno picked up the assist.

But Norco responded two minutes later with a goal and the two teams were tied at the half, 1-1.

Despite Irvine Valley having several good chances in the second half, the match looked headed to a draw late.

But that's when Segal scored his biggest goal of the season so far. He found the back of the net in the 88th minute to give IVC the lead for good.

Sophomore forward Sean Goode put the finishing touches on the match a little more than two minutes later with a goal off an assist from sophomore forward Connor Elder.

The two goals for Segal were his fifth and sixth of the season. It put him fifth in the conference in goals.

Goode recorded his 11th of the year, which ranks him second in the conference.

IVC now has three players in the top five in goals with Connor Elder sitting at third with eight.

Freshman keeper Blake Sigler made six saves on the day, including four in the second half to help protect the victory.

Irvine Valley hasa bye on Friday and then opens up the second round of conference play next Tuesday, traveling to Santiago Canyon for a 3 p.m. contest.
