Former Irvine Valley baseball player Kyle Dobson had quite a season at NCAA Division II Chico State.
He was named second team all-West Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) after starring for the Wildcats.
Dobson helped lead Chico State to a 34-15 overall record and one of the most prolific offensive seasons in program history in 2022.
Dobson led the Wildcats and the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a .417 batting average. His .504 on-base percentage ranked second and his OPS of 1.078 was fourth.
The sophomore broke into Chico State's single-season top-10 lists in two categories: his .417 batting average is third highest in school history; while his .504 on-base percentage is fourth highest.
Dobson was named the NCBWA West Region Player of the Week in early March after Chico State's four-game sweep of Sonoma State.
Dobson started all four games at designated hitter and hit .667 (8 for 12) with two doubles, a triple, and seven runs batted in.
Dobson slugged 1.000 and reached base at a .714 clip. Dobson improved his batting average to .591.
He spent three years in the Laser program, earning first team all-Orange Empire Conference honors in 2019. He was named the IVC male athlete of the year in that freshman 2019 season.
Dobson hit .395 for the Lasers in 2019 with a team-leading 62 hits, eight doubles, 23 walks and 38 RBI.
In the shortened IVC 2020 season, Dobson batted .300 with three doubles, one triple, 15 walks and 16 RBI.
The former Santa Margarita High standout hit .286 for the Lasers in 21 games in 2021 with 18 runs and 14 walks before moving on to Chico State.
