Baseball team can't solve Seahawk pitching in defeat

Irvine Valley's baseball team had trouble solving LA Harbor's pitchers, especially starter Alec Abdalah, in a 7-1 nonconference loss at home on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was the first of a two-game series between the teams.

Irvine Valley plays at LA Harbor on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Tuesday's defeat was the Lasers' fourth in a row and dropped the team's record to 17-16 overall. LA Harbor, which plays in the South Coast Conference, improved its record to 13-18-1 overall.

Abdalah, who improved his record to 5-2 overall, didn't allow a hit over the first six innings.

Irvine Valley's Cole Joy broke up the no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to right field. He later scored on a RBI single by freshman catcher Ryan Gaynor.

But LA Harbor still led, 6-1.

Abdalah ended up going seven innings and giving up one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Willy Paul and Fernando Rivas each pitched a scoreless inning after that.

The Seahawks scored three runs in the top of the first and added a single run in the top of the second to take control of the game.

Lead-off hitter Alec Ojeda went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and one RBI. One of his hits was a solo home run in the second. Joe Argumendo went 4 for 5 with two rBI and Ruben Markham was 2 for 5 with two RBI.

Irvine Valley finished with five hits in the contest.

Sophomore pitcher Austin Reynolds took the loss. He went four innings and gave up five runs on 11 hits.
