Irvine Valley's women's golf team finished in sixth place at the first Orange Empire Conference match of the season on Wednesday at Santa Rosa Country Club in Palm Desert.
The match was hosted by College of the Desert in high temperatures and high winds in the Palm Springs area.
Each OEC match will feature all eight conference teams.
The Lasers, who are the defending conference champions, came out of the match with a record of 2-5.
Irvine Valley finished with a four-player team score of 348.
Palomar went 7-0 with a score of 302. Saddleback was next with a 6-1 mark after shooting 324.
Desert finished at 326 strokes and had a record of 5-2.
Fullerton was next at 4-3 and 336 strokes and Mt. San Jacinto was fifth at 337 strokes and a record of 3-4.
Irvine Valley finished ahead of Cuyamaca, which shot 374 and had a 1-6 record and Mt. SAC, which had a score of 408. The Mounties were 0-8.
IVC freshman Cindy Dang came in tied for sixth individually with a score of 78. She finsihed with 10 pars and eight bogeys.
Palomar's Sadye Busby was the medalist at 70.
Irvine Valley's second finisher was freshman Leleaga Meredith, who scored 79. she had nine pars and nine bogeys in her round.
Rounding out the team's scores were freshman Kimberly Richardson at 95 and freshman Nayoung Kim at 96.
"We should continue to improve as the season progresses," Coach Ben Burnett said. "I am working with the team on strategy and course management. Being an all-freshmen team, our players don't have a lot of knowledge or experience in playing the courses on our schedule."
Irvine Valley plays again at the South Coast Classic Sunday and Monday in the Ventura area.
