Volleyball team has early season showdown with Moorpark

Irvine Valley hosts its first match of the 2023 season Friday afternoon.

IVC hosts Moorpark in a showdown between two of the top teams in So. Cal. so far.

The Lasers (2-0) have been on the road and recorded two sweeps so far.

IVC defeate Canyons in three sets last Friday and then beat Mt. SAC, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21, on the road on Wednesday.

Sophomore outside hitter Tessa Marocco leads the way for IVC.

She was named the OEC co-MVP and all-region last season.

Marocco finished with 19 kills, hit .310 on the night and added 15 kills.

Natalia Brandlin contributed six kills and four block assists and setter Mia Bertolone added 32 assists and 11 digs for the Lasers.

Tatum Pongs and Kenzie Dews each finished with five kills for IVC. Pongs also had 12 digs.

Moorpark has a record of 3-0 so far on the year.

The Raiders swept both Fullerton and College of the Desert in a tri-event on Aug. 25 and then defeated El Camino in straight sets on Aug. 30.

Moorpark was the top seed from So. Cal. In the CCCAA State Championships last season. The Raiders finished with a record of 18-5 overall.
