Women's volleyball takes on Riverside at home Wednesday night

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team looks to continue its win streak as it takes on Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference match Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at home.

Riverside has a record of 4-12 overall and a 1-7 mark in the Orange Empire Conference.

The Tigers have lost five straight matches. Santa Ana defeated Riverside, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23 last Friday at RCC.

Maggie Aburto had a solid match for the Tigers, finishing with 15 kills and hitting .481.

Jessica Lepe added eight kills and two aces, Hoku Goday had 10 digs and Audrey Elias ended with 20 assists.

On the season, Aburto is averaging 3.35 kills and 2.38 digs per set, Lepe averages 2.16 kills and 2.57 digs, Mya Castro is averaging 2.62 digs, Toaetolu averages 0.87 blocks and Elias averages 8.13 assists and 1.80 digs per set.

Irvine Valley, with a record of 11-4 overall and 7-1 in conference, stayed at the top of the Orange Empire Conference standings with a 25-3, 25-19, 25-16 win at Santiago Canyon last Friday night.

The Lasers moved up three spots in this week's state rankings to No. 9.

The sweep at SCC was Irvine Valley's eighth of the year and fifth in conference.

Irvine Valley hit .300 as a team.

Freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco had 10 kills, added six digs and hit .318. Sophomore opposite Jayli Nealy had seven kills and two blocks, sophomore opposite Chloe Swanson finished with seven kills and four digs and freshman outside hitter Angelina Griego ended with five kills and seven digs.

Freshman setter Mia Bertolone put up 14 assists and seven digs, sophomore setter Maddie Harkey had nine assists and three digs and freshman defensive specialist Hanna Ledesma chipped in seven digs for the Lasers.

On the year, Nealy is averaging 4.08 kills per set, which ranks 11th in the state, Marocco is averaging 3.98 kills (13th in the state) and 2.33 digs per set, sophomore libero Gabi Brown is averaging 3.71 digs and Harkey averages 7.10 assists per set for IVC.

The Lasers play again on Friday, traveling to Orange Coast at 6 p.m. for another big conference match.
