Women's volleyball team responds with OEC victory at Riverside

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team bounced back with a win in its Orange Empire Conference opener at Riverside Friday night.

The Lasers suffered two tough losses to ranked teams in the state in their last two contests.

But No. 11 Irvine Valley responded with a 25-22, 25-14, 25-11 win over Riverside to improve their record to 5-3 overall.

IVC has a big match now next Wednesday night at home against No. 13 Orange Coast at 6 p.m.

The Lasers started a bit slow in the first set on Friday, but got better and better as the match went on in the Inland Empire.

Irvine Valley was led by freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco, who finished with 15 kills and four digs. She also hit .290.

Sophomore opposite Jayli Nealy added 11 kills, four digs and two blocks and sophomore opposite Chloe Swanson chipped in eight kills with no errors in 13 attempts (.615 hitting percentage). Swanson also contributed nine digs.

Sophomore setter Maddie Harkey ran the offense with 34 assists and finished with five digs.

The Lasers hit .337 as a team to Riverside's .114.
