Irvine Valley's women's tennis team wrapped up its best regular season in five years with an impressive 8-1 Orange Empire Conference win at Saddleback Thursday afternoon.
Irvine Valley won its 10th match of the year, improving to 10-5 overall. The team also took second in conference with a record of 8-2.
Its only two losses in conference came to Riverside, which won the conference title.
The Lasers, who are ranked No. 7 in Southern California, won all six singles matches on the day to clinch the overall victory before doubles was even played.
IVC won all six matches in straight sets with sophomores Renee Walton, Ashley Athanas, Ruth Chou Marissa Woolsey and Parmida Navabsafavi and freshman Tiana Cung each earning victories.
Walton defeated Ashley Glick, 7-6, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot. Walton was down in the first set, but battled back to win in a tiebreaker.
Athanas gave up just three games at No. 2 singles and Navabsafavi won, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.
In doubles, Irvine Valley won two of three matches.
Woolsey and Athanas won, 8-1, at the No. 2 position and Chou and sophomore Christie Yamasaki came through, 8-2, at the No. 3 spot.
Irvine Valley now waits the announcement of the CCCAA regional team playoff pairings. They are scheduled to be announced on Sunday.
