Irvine Valley's women's soccer team did not back down against the top team in the Orange Empire Conference.

The Lasers played with Santiago Canyon, which is ranked No. 5 in the state, for portions of Friday's contest at home.

But the Hawks had too much and took down the Lasers, 5-0.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 2-8-1 overall and 0-4-0 in conference action. Santiago Canyon improved to 9-1-0 overall and 4-0-0 in conference.

Santiago Canyon scored in the 32nd and 41st minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the half.

And the Hawks added three goals in the second half for the 5-0 victory.

Camryn Toole, Shelby Kain, Ally Gorsha, Keira Hazlett and Alyssa Rubio scored for Santiago Canyon.

Irvine Valley freshman goalie Andrea Gonzales finished the day with nine saves.

IVC plays again on Tuesday in a conference match at Golden West at 3 p.m.
