Four basketball players named all-Orange Empire Conference

Irvine Valley recently had four of its players named to all-Orange Empire Conference teams.

The Lasers had another solid season under second-year head coach Jason Garey.

IVC finshed with a record of 21-8 overall and was 12-2 for second place in conference. The Lasers were ranked in the top 10 in Southern California all season.

Irvine Valley also made the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs, receiving a bye in the first round before losing to Ventura, 69-62.

Sophomores Makena Tomlinson and Christen Ziska were named first team all-Orange Empire Conference and sophomore Emily Freeman and freshman Moka Saiki were selected to the second team by coaches.

Tomlinson, a post player out of Corona del Mar High, averaged 12.1 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. She also shot 51.6 percent from the field.

Ziska, a wing player out of Redlands East Valley, averaged a team-high 12.8 points and added 5.1 rebounds per game. 

Freeman, a guard from San Juan Hills High, averaged 9.1 points per game and led the team with 69 made three-pointers. And Saiki, a guard out of Portola High, averaged 11.0 points and a team-best 1.9 steals per game.
