After a successful Coaches vs. Cancer night on Tuesday at home, the Irvine Valley women's basketball team hosts its Sophomore Night Thursday at 7 p.m. when it takes on Cypress at 7 p.m.
Irvine Valley is ranked No. 12 in the most recent state poll and has a record of 18-7 overall and 9-2 in Orange Empire Conference play.
Irvine Valley defeated Fullerton, 65-46, on Tuesday at home.
Sophomore wing Christen Ziska had 14 points and six rebounds, freshman guard Moka Saiki finished with 13 points and six rebounds and freshman guard Emily Freeman added 12 points and three steals to lead IVC.
Sophomore post player Makena Tomlinson also contributed 16 rebounds, three assists and two blocks for the Lasers.
On the year, Ziska averages 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds, Tomlinson is averaging 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds, Saiki averages 11.4 points, Freeman is averaging 9.6 points and 3.1 assists and freshman guard Haruka Mikuma averages 3.9 assists a game for Irvine Valley.
Cypress enters Thursday night's match-up with a record of 10-15 overall and 6-5 in conference action.
The Chargers fell to Golden West, 66-63, at home on Tuesday. Golden West outscored Cypress by six points in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Journie Hayden led Cypress with 23 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Sierra Hill added 15 points and five rebounds and Maritza Mendoza had 12 rebounds for the Chargers
On the season for the Chargers, Hayden is averaging 14.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals, Jolie Johnson averages 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds, Hill is averaging 8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds and Dorothy Schwenck averages 8.4 points per game for Cypress.
