Coaches vs. Cancer Night as Irvine Valley takes on Fullerton

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team takes on Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference game Tuesday night at home.

IVC has two home games left in the regular season. Tuesday's night's game is the program's annual Coaches vs. Cancer game with proceeds going toward the American Cancer Society.

Irvine Valley is ranked No. 11 in the most recent state poll and has a record of 17-7 overall and 8-2 in OEC play.

IVC stayed in second place in the conference standings with two wins last week, including beating Golden West, 81-68, on the road Friday.

Sophomore wing Christen Ziska led the way with 25 points.

She made 8 of 14 shots and 7 of 9 attempts from the free throw line.

Ziska was one of four players for IVC to score in double figures. Sophomore post player Makena Tomlinson added 12 points and 12 rebounds and sophomore guard Emily Freeman and freshman guard Moka Saiki each contributed 11 points.

Freeman also had four assists and three steals and Saiki ended with eight rebounds for the Lasers. On the year, Tomlinson is averaging 12.0 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

Ziska averages 11.5 points and 4.8 rebounds, Saiki is averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds, Freeman is averaging 9.5 points per game and freshman point guard Haruka Mikuma averages 4.0 assists per game for the Lasers.

IVC plays again on Thursday at home against Cypress at 7 p.m. It will be sophomore night.

Fullerton enters Tuesday night's match-up with a record of 13-11 overall and is 4-6 in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Hornets defeated Santa Ana, 70-63, at home last Friday.

Kaylee Shimoda finished with 17 points and five assists, Toni Ballestero added 13 points, Jasmine Arnold and Katelyn Glumace each contributed 10 points and Amya Iannone ended with 11 rebounds for Fullerton in the win. Fullerton used a 26-14 advantage in the fourth quarter to rally for the victory.

On the season for the Hornets, Xochitl Hood is averaging 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds, Shimoda averages 11.0 points and 2.9 assists, Tia Jaquias is averaging 10.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.4 steals and Arnold averages 8.8 points and 2.9 steals per game.
