Women's basketball team hosts Golden West Wednesday night

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team hosts Golden West in an Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

Irvine Valley is ranked No. 14 in the state and won its 10th game of the 2023-24 season last Friday at Santa Ana.

The Lasers moved their record to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 74-60 win at Santa Ana.

IVC led, 38-25, at the half, and were up by as many as 28 points in the fourth quarter before winning by 14.

Irvine Valley had three players score in double figures.

Sophomore wing Christen Ziska ended with a game-high 22 points. The total tied her game high for the year. She went 7 of 13 from the field and made 4 of 8 three-point attempts.

Ziska also finished with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Emily Freeman had 14 points, making 4 of 7 from behind the arc, and had two steals in the game.

Sophomore post player Makena Tomlinson contributed 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Freshman guard Moka Saiki had nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals and sophomore forward Ella Will added eight points for IVC.

The Lasers are led in points on the season by Saiki, who is averaging 11.2 per game. She also averages 2.1 steals per contest.

Ziska is averaging 10.9 points and 4.0 rebounds, Tomlinson averages 10.7 points and 9.5 rebounds and Freeman is averaging 8.6 points, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game for Irvine Valley.

Golden West enters Wednesday night's match-up with an 11-5 record overall and 1-1 mark in OEC action.

The Rustlers started conference play with a 80-69 win at Saddleback on the road last Wednesday and then fell to Orange Coast, 98-54, at home on Friday.

Against Orange Coast on Friday, Princess McCauley finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and six steals.

Makayla Heffernan added 12 points, Ty Adams had 10 points and Laoren Jordan ended with 10 rebounds for the Rustlers.

On the year, Kayla Terry is averaging 22.5 points and 18.3 rebounds per game, McCauley averages 17.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, Adams is averaging 12.1 points and 5.9 rebounds and Heffernan averages 9.1 points and 4.1 rebounds for Golden West.

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday at Fullerton at 6 p.m.
