Irvine Valley's women's basketball team starts Orange Empire Conference play against the reigning state champ Wednesday night at home.
The Lasers take on Orange Coast to begin conferene action at 6 p.m.
Orange Coast has a record of 11-3 overall.
The Pirates are ranked fifth in the state and third in Southern California in the latest coaches poll.
OCC defeated East LA, 72-55, on the road in its last game on Dec. 30, 2023.
Orange Coast received 22 points from Jordan Arreola, 17 points and 10 rebounds from Bridgette McIntyre, 14 points from Sabrina Lopez and eight points and 11 rebounds from Ashari Cassell.
On the season, McIntyre is averaging 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, Cassell averages 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, Lopez is averaging 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and Arreola is averaging 9.0 points per game for Coast.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 14 in the state, went on the road and defeated Palo Verde, 77-48, last Friday.
The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 9-5 overall.
The Lasers were led by freshman guard Moka Saiki, who finished with 20 points and six steals.
Sophomore wing Christen Ziska added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists and sophomore guard Emily Freeman chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals for IVC.
On the year, the Lasers are led by Saiki, who is averaging 11.3 points and 2.1 steals per contest.
Ziska is averaging 10.6 points and 3.9 rebounds, sophomore post player Makena Tomlinson averages 10.4 points and 9.1 rebounds and Freeman is averaging 8.4 points and 2.7 assists per game.
After facing Orange Coast, the Lasers play on Friday in a conference game at Santa Ana at 7 p.m.
