Women's basketball team stays perfect with victory at Citrus

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team stayed perfect on the season Friday afternoon at Citrus as part of the El Camino Crossover.

The Lasers led from start to finish in a 72-53 win over the Owls.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 5-0 overall. Citrus went to 3-2 on the season.

Sophomore wing Christen Ziska hit a three-pointer for IVC 19 seconds into the game and the Lasers never looked back.

IVC led, 17-8, at the end of the first quarter and, 39-20, at the half.

And the Lasers were up by as many as 23 points late in the third quarter.

IVC held Citrus to just 30.6 percent (19 of 62) as a team in the game.

Irvine Valley got another strong effort by sophomore post player Makena Tomlinson. She fnished with 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting and added nine rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore guard Emily Freeman contributed 12 points and four reboundsand freshman guard Moka Saiki chipped in 10 points and five rebounds.

Sophomore forward Ella Will had 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Ziska finished with nine points, five rebounds and four steals for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley is scheduled to play again at El Camino next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
