Women's basketball team plays final game of regular season

The Irvine Valley w,omen's basketball team wraps up the regular season on Tuesday night at home against Fullerton at 5 p.m.

It will also be sophomore night for IVC with celebration of second-year players before the game.

It has been a successful year for the Lasers and first-year head coach Jason Garey.

The Lasers are ranked No. 16 in the state and sit in third place in the tough Orange Empire Conference. IVC has a record of 19-8 overall and 7-4 in the OEC.

Irvine Valley is coming off a 72-55 loss at Cypress last Friday night.

Irvine Valley was paced on the night by freshman guard Trasara Alexander with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Kaila Truby added 12 points and four rebounds and sophomore guard Kennedy Pucci and freshman guard Emily Freeman each contributed nine points.

Pucci also had eight rebounds.

With the sophomore celebration, Alara Ersu, Pucci, Truby, Giselle Martinez and Mia Stewart will each be honored.

On the season, Alexander is averaging 15.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for IVC.

Pucci averages 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds, Freeman is averaging 8.5 points and Martinez is averaging 7.2 points and 4.5 rebounds a game for the Lasers.

Fullerton had one of its best wins of the season last Friday night.

The Hornets knocked off No. 17 in the state Riverside, 78-74, at home.

The win improved Fullerton's record to 11-15 overall and 2-8 in the Orange Empire Conference. The Hornets snapped a seven-game losing streak.

Angela Zendejas led the team in scoring with 18 points and finished with nine rebounds.

Toni Ballestero followed with 16 points and Jasmine Arnold delivered 14 points.

Tia Jaquias chipped in 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Bri Landeros had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

On the year, Zendejas is averaging 11.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, Landeros averages 10.5 points and 8.5 rebounds and Jaquias is averaging 9.0, 5.3 rebounds and3.4 assists points per game for the Hornets.

After tonight's game, Irvine Valley will wait for the playoff pairings announcement later this weekend.
