For the second time this season, the Irvine Valley women's basketball team was right with Orange Coast for 40 minutes.

But the Lasers fell to 0-2 against the Pirates.

Orange Coast, ranked No. 3 in the state, defeated No. 17 IVC, 66-57, Friday night in an Orange Empire Conference game at OCC.

The Pirates improved their record to 22-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference to stay tied at the top of the standings with Cypress.

Irvine Valley (16-7, 4-3) is now tied for third place with Riverside.

Sophomore guard Kennedy Pucci had her best game as a Laser, finishing with 24 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Freshman point guard Trasara Alexander added 11 points and eight rebounds.

But turnovers hurt the Lasers. IVC turned the ball over 21 times, which led to 20 OCC points. Orange Coast beat Irvine Valley in points off of turnovers, 20-6.

Meghan McIntyre finished with 23 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists to pace Orange Coast. Gabby Samiy contributed 17 points and Savannah Seiller had nine points and nine rebounds for the Pirates.

Irvine Valley led, 14-12, after the first quarter, but the Lasers were down, 37-31, at the break.

Orange Coast still led by six points after the third quarter.

IVC threatened down the stretch and got within four (58-54), but the OCC offense found just enough success to hold the Lasers off the rest of the way.

The Lasers play again next Wednesday in a conference game at Golden West at 5 p.m.
