Women's basketball opens conference play against No. 2 OCC

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team won two big games last week in the Ventura tournament, taking down Glendale and El Camino to improve its record to 12-4 overall.

With the two wins, Irvine Valley improved its record to 12-4 overall. The Lasers are ranked No. 19 in the state and tied for sixth in Southern California in the latest women's basketball poll.

Irvine Valley now starts Orange Empire Conference play. And the Lasers play one of the best teams in the state. IVC hosts Orange Coast Wednesday night at home at 6 p.m.

OCC is undefeated on the season at 16-0 overall.

For Irvine Valley on the season, freshman point guard Trasara Alexander is averaging 11.4 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

Sophomore guard Kennedy Pucci averages 8.1 points and 2.0 assists. Freshman wing Christen Ziska and freshman guard Emily Freeman are each averaging 7.7 points per game for IVC.

The Pirates are led by Meghan McIntyre, who is one of the top players in the state. She is averaging 20.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.8 steals per game.

Karina Cabrera averages 14.9 points per game and Annie Trinh is averaging 11.3 points for OCC.

After tonight, Irvine Valley is back in action on Friday, hosting Golden West at 5 p.m. in another conference game.
