Nine in a row for the Irvine Valley women's basketball team

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team continued its amazing run to start the 2022-23 season.

The Lasers held on Friday night and beat Modesto, 51-45, to begin the IVC Crossover Classic.

Irvine Valley held Modesto to just 25 percent shooting from the field (17 of 68) in the contest.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 9-0 overall. Modesto slipped to 4-7 overall on the year.

The Lasers were led by freshman point guard Trasara Alexender, who scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Sophomore guard Kaila Truby added eight points and sophomore forward Giselle Martinez contributed seven points, four rebounds and two steals in the IVC win.

Irvine Valley plays again on Saturday to finish up the event. The Lasers play Moorpark, which beat Rio Hondo, 66-50, in the opening game of the crossover classic on Friday afternoon.

Sabrina Belquist led Moorpark with 18 points in the win.

Modesto takes on Rio Hondo at 3 p.m. before IVC battles with Moorpark at 5 p.m. Saturday.
