Irvine Valley women's 2021 basketball schedule released

The 2021 Irvine Valley women's basketball schedule has been posted on our website here

The CCCAA Board of Directors overwhelmingly approved implementation of its Contingency Plan in July, providing a return to intercollegiate athletics for the 2020-21 academic year that shifts all sports, including football, to the spring season. Irvine Valley does not compete in football, but has 11 sports and five would compete in the first part of the spring schedule, including, men's and women's soccer, women's volleyball and men's and women's basketball.

The Contingency Plan was among three potential scenarios approved by the Board in early June. Each plan was wholly dependent on which phase of reopening from the COVID-19 pandemic the state of California was in on the CCCAA's previously announced July 17 decision date. The return to athletics in January will only occur if it is safe to do so, a decision that will be guided primarily by state and local health guidelines.

All sports will have a 30% reduction in the maximum number of contests or competition dates that they are currently permitted and will also have regional postseason competition. Formats for the postseason will be announced at a later date. The CCCAA will not have state championships in 2020-21.

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team would start its season on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 at home against East Los Angeles at 4 p.m.

The Lasers are scheduled to play six pre-conference games (Feb. 5 vs. East Los Angeles, Feb. 6 vs. Palomar, Feb. 10 at Cerritos, Feb. 12 vs. San Diego City, Feb. 13 vs. Rio Hondo and Feb. 17 vs. El Camino) before starting a 14-game Orange Empire Conference schedule on Friday, Feb. 19 at rival Cypress).

Anai Washington was named Irvine Valley's female athlete of the year for the 2019-20 season and received a scholarship to NCAA Division II Cal State Los Angeles. She was also picked as the OEC most valuable player, named all-state and earned All-American honors.

Sophomore center Zoe Stachowski also earned all-state honors, was an all-conference selection and earned a scholarship to NCAA Division I Cal Poly.

Coach Julie Hanks was named the conference coach of the year and crossed 400 wins in her career with the Lasers.
