Basketball players Washington and Stachowski picked all-state
Irvine Valley women's basketball players Anai Washington and Zoe Stachowski were recently named to the California Community College Women's Basketball Association All-State Team.

Washington, a sophomore guard, was picked to the first team and Stachowski, a sophomore center, was selected to the second team.

Both had outstanding seasons and helped lead IVC to a record of 25-3 overall, 12-0 in the Orange Empire Conference and another trip to the CCCAA So. Cal Regional Playoff finals.

Washington and Stachowski have been a part of Irvine Valley squads that have went 48-9 the past two years, won two conference titles and made the regional finals twice.

Washington was the best player in the Orange Empire Conference if not state-wide, and after being out early in the year, Stachowski was one of the top post players in Southern California.

Washington was chosen as the OEC Most Valuable Player this past season.

For the season, she averaged a double-double on the year. Washington's numbers were 18.1 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game. She also shot an impressive 55.3 percent from the field.

And Washington was even better during conference action, where Irvine Valley went 12-0 and wrapped up its third OEC title in a row.

She averaged 19.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.8 steals a game in conference.

Stachowski also averaged a double-double on the year, with 16.4 points, 12.9 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.8 blocks per game.

She was chosen all-conference for the second straight season.

Stachowski was selected to the first team after averaging 16.9 points and 12.3 rebounds overall and 17.5 points and 12.6 rebounds in conference.

The IVC duo were two of three players from the OEC that were named to all-state teams.

Cypress' Jessica Barrow was also selected to the second team.

The players of the year were Donja Payne from Mt. San Jacinto and Bree Calhoun from Moorpark.
