Women's basketball team cruises on the road at Citrus

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team ran over another opponent on Wednesday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 7 in Southern California in the preseason coaches poll, defeated Citrus, 74-30, on the road.

The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 6-0 overall.

It was IVC's second largest win of the season. The Lasers defeated Grossmont by 55 points on Nov. 2.

The 30 points was the fewest points Irvine Valley has given up in a game this year.

Citrus didn't score more than eight points in any quarter.

Irvine Valley is now averaging beating opponents by 32.3 points per game.

Sophomore guard Anai Washington had her second big game in a row for the Lasers. She led the way with 22 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in 30 minutes of work.

Four of the Laser starters scored in double figures in the contest.

Freshman forward Kaitlyn Luu added 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, freshman guard Jessica Suruor contributed 11 points and four steals and freshman guard Morgan Higgins had 10 points and five assists.

The Lasers finished with 24 assists on their 32 made baskets. And they came up with 17 steals, which helped lead to 34 fastbreak points.

Irvine Valley led, 15-8, at the end of the first quarter and, 38-14, at the half.

Irvine Valley shot 47.8 percent as a team in the game, while Citrus shot just 22.4 percent.

Citrus saw its record fall to 1-5 on the year.

The Lasers play again on Friday, traveling to No. 12 El Camino for a 7 p.m.
