Men's volleyball team makes it three in a row, big week next

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team had little trouble with Palomar in a nonconference match on Friday night at home.

The Lasers, ranked No. 5 in the state, improved their record to 5-2 overall with a 25-13, 25-18, 25-14 victory.

It was Irvine Valley's third straight win.

IVC head coach Rory Jones was able to get a few of his top players some rest in the contest with a big week coming up.

Irvine Valley hosts No. 9 Miramar at 6 p.m. in a make-up match on Monday, No. 2 San Diego Mesa on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and then has a home match at 11 a.m. against four-year Xavier University on Friday.

The squad received kills from nine different players. And fourteen different players saw action.

Sophomore outside hitter Jared Irwin led the team in kills, finishing with eight and hitting .375.

Sophomore James Perkins ended with six kills and hit .625, freshman middle blocker Drake Goering had five kills and hit .667, and sophomores Matt Reid and Zach McEntire and freshman middle blocker Giovanni Flowers each chipped in four kills. Flowers also had five blocks.

Freshman setter Yashar Khamenian and sophomore setter Nick Hinker ran the offense with Kahemnian having 17 assists and Hinker contributing 13 assists.

As a team, Irvine Valley hit .397 in the contest.

Irvine Valley hosts No. 9 Miramar on Monday at 6 p.m. and then No. 2 San Diego Mesa on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
