The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team, ranked No. 5 in the state in the latest coaches poll, went on the road and picked up an important win on Wednesday night.
The Lasers improved their record to 4-2 overall with a 25-18, 25-15, 29-27 victory over No. 8 Grossmont.
Irvine Valley was led by freshman middle blocker Drake Goering, who had his best match of the season so far. He finished with 12 kills and had no errors in 18 attempts. Goering hit .667 for the night and added two blocks.
Sophomore opposite Matt Reid ended with nine kills and hit .353. He also had two aces and three blocks.
And, freshman setter Grant Dvorak contributed eight kills, hit .368 and finished with 20 assists.
Irvine Valley ended with a .388 hitting percentage (43-10-85) as a team.
The Lasers play again Friday, hosting Palomar at 6 p.m.
