The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team has played a tough schedule so far in the 2023 season.
The Lasers have handled it well and have a 6-1 record overall.
They will get another test on Wednesday night, hosting San Diego Miramar at home at 6 p.m.
The Lasers bounced back after suffering their first loss of the season with a 19-25, 25-13, 25-20, 28-26 win at Santa Monica last Friday night.
IVC got big nights from sophomore opposite Demetre Gossett, freshman setter Kaina Alvarez and sophomore libero Adam Schulte.
Gossett finished with 23 kills, two aces and eight digs and hit .405 in the match.
Alvarez dished out 40 assists and had nine digs and Schulte finished with 29 digs and four assists.
Freshman outside hitter Damon Kooiman also contributed 10 kills and eight digs for the Lasers.
So far this season, Gossett is averaging 4.14 kills per set and hitting.358 to lead the way.
Kooiman averages 2.46 kills and freshman outside hitter Zach McEntire averages 2.04 kills per set.
Sophomore middle blocker Julio Gutierrez is averaging 1.50 kills and hitting a team-best .466.
Alvarez is averaging 7.89 assists and Schulte averages 4.07 digs per set.
Gossett leads the state in kills per set and total kills (116) and is also second in hitting percentage. And, Schulte is pacing the state in digs per set and total digs (114).
Miramar has a record of 3-1 overall.
The Jets have won three straight matches.
After losing to Long Beach City to start its season, Miramar defeated Antelope Valley in five sets on Feb. 15, Santiago in four sets on Feb. 22 and then Fullerton in four sets (25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22) last Friday night at home.
