Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team is back on the court tonight, taking on Santa Barbara City at 5 p.m.
The Lasers are off to a 4-0 start under first-year head coach Rory Jones.
The Lasers defeated Moorpark in five sets in a battle of undefeated teams last Tuesday at home.
The Lasers won the first two sets, dropped the next two and then pulled out a 15-13 win in the fifth.
Sophomore opposite Demetre Gossett finished with 17 kills and hit .394 on the night to lead the way and keep IVC unbeaten.
Freshman outside hitter Damon Kooiman had 14 kills, eight digs and two blocks and freshman outside hitter Zach McEntire added 10 kills and 14 digs.
IVC freshman setter Kaina Alvarez ran the offense for IVC with 40 assists and had 12 digs.
And sophomore libero Adam Schulte contributed 20 digs.
So far this season, Gossett is averaging 3.69 kills per set and hitting.427 to lead the way. Kooiman averages 2.25 kills and McEntire averages 2.00 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Matt Reid is averaging 1.91 kills and hitting a team-best .563. Alvarez is averaging 7.25 assists and Schulte averages 3.94 digs per set.
Santa Barbara City has a record of 2-1 overall.
The Vaqueros have won two straight matches, defeating Fullerton in four sets last Wednesday and then sweeping Golden West, 25-18, 25-15, 25-16, last Friday at home.
In the victory over the Rustlers, Cameron Brown had seven kills and Cole Richards added six kills for SBCC. Richards also had four blocks.
Carter Cottrell had 14 assists and Troy Fitzgerald chipped in 13 assists in the win over GWC.
On the year, Brown is averaging 2.80 kills per set, Fitzgerald averages 1.86 kills and 4.29 assists and Vinny Costa averages 2.30 digs.
After tonight, Irvine Valley will play its next two matches on the road. The Lasers are at San Diego Mesa next Wednesday at 6 p.m. and then play at Santa Monica next Friday at 6 p.m.
