Men's volleyball team sweeps Miramar for first win

Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2015 season Friday night at Miramar in San Diego in a Pacific Coast Conference match.

IVC leveled its record at 1-1 on the season with the 25-19, 25-16, 25-23 victory.

Irvine Valley opened the year with a tough five-set loss at El Camino earlier last week.

On Friday, Irvine Valley got contributions from players across the board, especially from its middle blockers.

Sophomore middle blocker Matt Mittry had six kills to lead the way.

Sophomore middle blocker Nate Kofman, freshman middle blocker Robert Ryley and sophomore outside hitter Josh Schmidt each finished with five kills. Kofman also added five blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Kevin Dell contributed three blocks.

Sophomore libero Billy Crow had 11 digs, freshman setter Jake Adams had 14 digs and sophomore setter Arek Halaj finished with 11 assists and six digs.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at Santa Barbara City. The Lasers are home again next Friday, hosting LA Pierce at 6 p.m.
