Irvine Valley's men's tennis team lost to Cypress, 8-1, in its final home match of the regular season on Thursday.
The Lasers saw their record slip to 5-8 overall and 5-3 in the Orange Empire Conference. Cypress improved to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in conference.
IVC was chasing Cypress for the second position in the conference standings.
Irvine Valley lost all three doubles matches. IVC just missed out on a win at the third spot with the freshmen duo of Jacob Holiday and William Li. They fell, 8-6, to Jan Simon and Giovanni Fragalle.
In singles action, Irvine Valley picked up its win from freshman Michael Bott at the top spot. He beat Alex Hagon.
Bott was up, 4-1, in the first set when Hagon retired.
Irvine Valley plays again at Fullerton on Thursday and at Riverside next Tuesday.
