The Irvine Valley men's soccer team might have started off a little slow, but the Lasers sure finished strong Tuesday afternoon at home.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 11 in this week's state poll, got two smashing goals from freshman forward Parsa Ghostabshi and a closing finish off of a scorpion kick by freshman midfielder Aleksey Dykhno in a 3-0 Orange Empire Conference win over the Chargers.
It was the Lasers' 11th straight unbeaten game overall and eight straight in conference play.
The Lasers moved their record to 8-2-4 overall and 3-0-4 in conference.
But IVC got solid play from all around, including freshman keeper Christopher Arzate earning a shutout. He made three saves on the day.
Ghostabshi put the Lasers on the board in the 32nd minute with a one time perfect strike off of his left foot from 22 yards out into the upper right corner of the net. Freshman midfielder Yasser Mallisho provided the assist.
The game was tight after that, even though Irvine Valley had plenty of chances on goal.
The Lasers put the game away late with two more special strikes.
Ghostabshi scored again in the 82nd minute, taking on a defender on the left side and then beating the keeper with another strong left-footed shot near post.
Sophomore standout forward Ivan Lopez played a perfect give-and-go to put Ghostabshi in for the finish.
Dykhno received a pass in front of the net in the 86th minute and hit a back heel into the net off of a nice pass from freshman forward Celis, who beat a defender on the right side and slotted a perfect pass into the box.
Irvine Valley starts the second round of conference play next Tuesday with an important match against Golden West on the road at 3 p.m.
