Men's soccer team drops match to Golden West at Great Park

The Irvine Valley men's soccer team faced another top-ranked team on Tuesday at the OC Great Park.

Irvine Valley faced the ninth-ranked team in the state, Golden West, in an Orange Empire Conference match and fell, 3-1.

The Lasers' record went to 5-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference, while the Rustlers moved to 7-0-3 overall and 3-0-0 in the OEC.

Sophomore forward Izzy Abdelkader scored the lone goal for IVC.

Freshman striker Ivan Lopez hit a free kick that bounced off the post in the 66th minute and Abdelkader was there for the rebound and goal.

But Golden West already had a three-goal lead at that point.

Giovanni Ortiz (17th minute), Wilbert Loredo-Suara (39th minute), and Ricky Briseno (58th minute) built Golden West a 3-0 advantage before Irvine Valley got on the board.

Irvine Valley freshman goalie Isaac Hernandez finished with five saves.

The Lasers play in another conference match on Friday at Fullerton at 3 p.m.
