Men's basketball team hosts end of the 2023-24 season banquet

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team hosted its end of the season banquet for the 2023-24 season last week.

The Lasers finished with a record of 17-12 overall and were 8-8 in the Orange Empire Conference. IVC also made the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs.

At the squad's banquet, sophomore post player Jesse Stines, sophomore guards Roman Swizek, Luke Farrington and David Ogunlade and sophomore guard/wing player Marcus Carter were presented with team awards.

Stines was named the team's most valuable player and the best rebounder for the Lasers.

Stines was selected first team all-Orange Empire Conference. He led the Lasers in points, rebounds and blocks on the season.

He also ranked second in field goal percentage and three-point shooting.

The 6-6 Stines averaged 13.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. He shot 48.8 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from three-point range.

Stines, out of Sonora High, scored in double figures in 24 of Irvine Valley's 29 games.

Farrington was picked as most academic.

Farrington was one of the top shooting guards in the state. He averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 rebounds and shot 49.1 percent from the field and 49.6 percent from the three-point line. Farrington ranked second in the state in three-point shooting.

The 6-4 guard out of Mission Viejo High sank 58 three-pointers on the year, including hitting a season-high 8 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 28 points in Irvine Valley's 67-55 win over Santa Ana on Feb. 9.

Swizek was selected as IVC's most inspirational player.

Swizek was second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game. The 6-3 guard out of Chapparal High in Temecula shot 41.8 percent from the field.

He scored in double figures in 16 games with a season-high 28 points in Irvine Valley's defeat at San Bernardino in the postseason.

Ogunlade was named the most improved player.

The 6-1 guard out of King's Christian High in Maryland started all 29 of Irvine Valley's games and averaged 5.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

And Carter was picked as the the Lasers' best defender.

Carter, a 6-2 guard out of North Torrance High, averaged 4.5 points and 1.3 assists per game. He recorded 19 steals, four blocks and was one of the top on-ball defenders for the Lasers this season.
