Irvine Valley hosts Saddleback Friday in battle of district rivals

Irvine Valley's men's basketball team hosts Saddleback on Friday at home at 6 p.m. in the second meeting between the two schools this season.

The Lasers fell, 75-72, in overtime in the first Orange Empire Conference match-up on Jan. 4 at Saddleback.

Saddleback enters Friday's contest with a record of 14-8 overall and 6-4 in conference. The Bobcats defeated Golden West, 82-74, on the road on Wednesday.

Saddleback has won three games in a row.

The Bobcats had a solid win over Santiago Canyon last Friday with Jimuel Reyes scoring 24 points and James Burries coming off the bench to score 23 points.

On the season for Saddleback, Reyes is averaging 17.2 points, 3.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game, Burries averages 12.7 points and Elijah Al-Debaran is averaging 11.6 points per game.

Irvine Valley enters Friday's game with a record of 4-17 overall and 0-9 in the OEC.

The Lasers fell at Orange Coast, 65-58, Monday on the road and then had a bye on Wednesday.

The Lasers led the Pirates early, 13-4, but OCC took over the contest in the second half.

For IVC, freshman guard Luke Farrington led the way with 21 points and freshman guard Christian Griffin added 11 points.

Sophomore post player Charlie Henderson chipped in seven points and a game-high 16 rebounds. 

On the year, Henderson is averaging 14.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Farrington averages 8.3 points and Griffin is averaging 6.0 points and 3.4 assists a game.

Irvine Valley is on the road next Wednesday at 5 p.m.
