Men's basketball team outlasted by Santiago Canyon at home

The Irvine Valley men's basketball team ran into another one of the top teams in the state Friday night at home. 

Irvine Valley took on No. 16 in the state Santiago Canyon.

The Lasers played well, but didn't have enough in a 69-59 defeat in an Orange Empire Conference contest.

Irvine Valley trailed, 30-24, at the end of the first half and were out-scored by four points in the second half.

Freshman guard Roman Swizek led IVC with 20 points and also had four assists.

Freshman wing Marcus Carter and freshman forward Makai Caruth each added eith points. Caruth also had six rebounds in the game.

IVC sophomore post player Charlie Henderson chipped in four points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Irvine Valley's record went to 4-14 overall and 0-6 in conference.

Santiago Canyon improved to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the OEC.

The Hawks had four players score in double figures. Aaron Wadman had 18 points, four rebounds and three assists. He went 10 of 10 from the free throw line.

Kai Smith added 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks, Harrison Wiese had 13 points and Isaiah Arthurton contributed 11 points and three rebounds for Santiago Canyon.

Irvine Valley plays again on Wednesday. The Lasers travel to Golden West for a 7 p.m. game.
