Baseball team bounces back from tough defeat with solid victory

Irvine Valley's baseball team bounced back from a tough, extra-inning loss on Thursday at LA Valley with a solid win on Friday at home.

After falling to LA Valley, 3-1, in extra innings, the Lasers defeated LA Mission, 9-6, on Friday.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 8-8 overall with Orange Empire Conference play starting next week. IVC plays Orange Coast in a three-game series with the Lasers hosting games on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and on Saturday at noon.

On Friday, Irvine Valley scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and three more in the bottom half of the third to take control.

Freshman outfielder Drew Seidel and freshman first baseman Jackson Snitko had big games again for the Lasers.

Seidel went 3 for 4 at the plate with a walk, two doubles, three runs scored and four RBI.

Snitko finished 2 for 4 with three RBI.

Sophomore centerfielder Shane Stafford added the other RBI for the Lasers and went 0 for 1 with a walk and a sacrifice fly.

But the story of the day for IVC was freshman right-hander Kade Murray on the mound. Murray had played in the field for the Lasers, but had yet to pitch.

Murray, making his first appearance, went three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

IVC sophomore righty starter Cole Dietsch also pitched well. He went three innings and gave up two runs (none earned) on one hit and four walks with four strikeouts.

Freshman right-hander reliever Colin Rhee picked up his second save of the year after finishing off the final three innings.

Irvine Valley now gets ready for Coast on Tuesday.
