Baseball team falls behind early, drops game to Long Beach City

The Irvine Valley baseball team's record slipped to 1-1 overall after a 12-1 defeat to Long Beach City in its home opener on Saturday.

The Lasers defeated LBCC, 6-4, Friday on the road.

But the Vikings jumped out to an early lead Saturday and never looked back.

Long Beach City scored five runs in the first inning, three runs in the second and a single run in the third to take control.

The big blow was a grand slam in the first by Luke Davis. He finished the contest going 1 for 2 with the home run, two runs scored, two walks and five RBI.

Irvine Valley finished with just three hits in the contest.

Sophomore second baseman Conner Hoskinson drove in the Lasers' run.

For Long Beach City, Dylan Proost earned the win on the mound, going five innings and allowing three hits on three hits and three runs with four strikeouts.

IVC freshman righty Tyler Eastham took the loss. He went 1.2 innings and gave up eight runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Irvine Valley will be back at it on Tuesday, hosting West LA at 1 p.m.

And there has been a schedule change. With the impending wet weather on Thursday, Feb. 1, Irvine Valley's home game with San Diego City has been moved to Friday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
